MJA | Grammar: Past Continuous Tense

Past continuous ini untuk menyatakan bahwa suatu kegiatan/ aksi sedang terjadi pada waktu tertentu di masa lampau, kegiatan/ aksi yang sudah dimulai tapi selum selesai pada saat itu. Tense ini dapat disela-sela kegiatan/ aksi yang lain dan juga dapat digabungkan dengan kegiayan lainnya pada waktu yang bersamaan.

Clue waktunya : Last month

                           Last year

                           While/ When

 

Rumusnya adalah:

 

SUBJECT	AUXILIARY VERB	PAST PARTICIPLE Verb+ Ing	Complement
I	WAS	READING	A BESTSELLER BOOK
YOU	WERE
THEY
WE
HE	WAS
SHE
IT

 

Kamu hanya perlu mengganti kata kerja menjadi bentuk ke-3 dan menambahkan Ing pada akhir kata kerja.

 

Macam-macam Past Continuous Tense:

Positive

S + Was/ Were + Past Participle/ Ving + O/C

I was dancing every week at the stage

She was reading a book every time

They were playing football before the accident

 

 

Negative

S + Was/ Were + Not + Past Participle/ Ving + O/C

I was not dancing every week at the stage

She was not reading a book every time

They were not playing football before the accident

 

 

Introgative

Question Word/ Was/ Were + S + Past Participle/ Ving + O/C

Were you dancing every week at the stage?

Yes, I were                  No, I were not

 

Was she reading a book every time?

Yes, she was               No, She was not

 

 

Example dengan penggunaan When/ While

I was dancing every week while she singing  at the stage

She was reading a book when he playing games in the smartphone

They were playing football when she painting the wall

 

Kamu bisa menyingkat  (Contraction) Auxiliary Verb dengan Not.

Was not           = Wasn’t

Were not         = Weren't
